Art in estates and successions: how to sell or value works discreetly
For estates and successions, art is best handled quietly: a confidential valuation, then a discreet sale to qualified buyers, with no public listing and no permanent record. Finarta Art Club provides both, works are matched to vetted collectors through a network of 450+ top-tier galleries in 30 countries, and nothing is published.
Why estates need a private route
Auction consigning publishes the family’s name, the work’s estimate and the result, permanently, and takes months of calendar time. For heirs and executors, a discreet private sale avoids anchoring values publicly, protects the family’s privacy, and avoids the buy-in risk that follows a failed public sale.
How it works
Each work is submitted confidentially, artist, provenance, condition, expectation, and matched against collectors’ active requests and the network’s galleries. Finarta’s team assists with valuation context, documentation, negotiation, payment and shipment; the seller’s fee is 3%. Works typically range from €100,000 to several million euros, average transaction about €500,000.
For professional advisors
Notaries, succession lawyers, wealth managers and family offices use Finarta as the discreet channel for their clients’ important works. A partnership programme with a reward exists for professionals who introduce new members; terms are discussed directly and kept private. Finarta was founded in Luxembourg in 2015; membership is €1,000 for twelve months.
For advisors
